Ingredients

  • 1 lb Fresh strawberries, washed and sliced
  • 1 cup Sour cream (Crema Mexicana is best)
  • 1 can (14 oz) Sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) Evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Optional: Whipped cream, granola, or cinnamon for topping

Instructions

  1. 1 Prep Berries: Wash the strawberries thoroughly. Remove the stems and slice them into quarters or halves depending on size. Set aside.
  2. 2 Make the Cream: In a blender or large bowl, combine the sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract.
  3. 3 Blend: Blend on high for 30 seconds until completely smooth and slightly thickened. Taste test! If you want it sweeter, add a touch of sugar, but the condensed milk is usually enough.
  4. 4 Assemble: Place a generous amount of strawberries into cups or bowls.
  5. 5 Pour: Pour the famous cream sauce over the berries until they are swimming in it.
  6. 6 Chill (Optional): You can eat it right away, but letting it sit in the fridge for 1 hour allows the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld.
  7. 7 Top It Off: Serve cold, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of granola for crunch.

If you have never had Fresas con Crema, you are in for a life-changing treat. It sounds simple—strawberries and cream—but the specific combination of three different milks creates a sauce that is rich, tangy, and impossibly creamy.

It’s a popular street snack in Mexico, but it’s incredibly easy to make at home.

The Secret Ingredient: Sour Cream?

Yes! Don’t skip it. The sour cream (or Mexican Table Cream / Media Crema) provides a tangy contrast that cuts through the intense sweetness of the condensed milk. Without it, the dessert is just cloying.

Customization

  • The Crunch: Traditionally, this isn’t served with granola, but many modern variations add it for texture.
  • The Fruit: While strawberries are king, this cream sauce (“La Crema”) tastes amazing on peaches, bananas, or mixed berries too.

This is the perfect no-bake dessert for when you have guests but zero time to cook.
